Learning Opportunities

Target Audience: Gr 4-8 teachers, educational assistants, parents and administrators are encouraged to attend.

This session will increase an educator’s knowledge of how to pinpoint where to begin when teaching phonics to older students. Camille will guide teachers in a structured phonics method that builds students’ decoding skills, within a daily 10–15-minute time block. To compliment decoding, an encoding method will also be outlined. Ways to apply these skills to text will be embedded, students need to practice transferring their decoding and encoding skills independently to build vocabulary, fluency and comprehension.
