About the Session


Walk and talk through an elementary learning community that has been designing learning through a conceptual lens.  Consider student work samples that reveal understanding of content through concepts, and reflect on the practices that spark critical thinking and connections.

This learning opportunity is being offered through curriculum implementation funding from Alberta Education.

About the Presenter(s)

Cheryl Babin is a consulting member of the Calgary Regional Consortium team.  With experience in public, international and independent schools as an educator, experiential learning director, instructional coach and consultant, Cheryl designs and facilitates online and face to face professional development sessions about teaching for conceptual understanding.  She currently holds a role as an International Baccalaureate Programme Coordinator and workshop leader. Cheryl supported pre-service teachers as a sessional instructor for B. Ed. students at St. Mary's University in Calgary. Specific areas of interest and experience include designing learning through a pedagogy of inquiry, concept based curriculum and instruction, student engaged assessment, and the development of international-mindedness and global perspectives.
