TARGET AUDIENCE: GRADE 7-9 MATH TEACHERS, MATH COACHES AND LEARNING COACHES ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND.
Once students have consolidated surface learning, teachers can encourage learners to begin making generalizations about and connections among mathematical ideas. Students can begin to plan, investigate, and elaborate on their learning. This will nurture deep learning. These evening sessions will parallel the conversations and content shared in the Visible Learning for Mathematics series (separate registration at, https://crcpd.ab.ca/program/3068, please note, you do not have to sign up for the full day Visible Learning sessions). During our evenings, we will focus on practical approaches for deep learning using the Visible Learning research as a guide. Participants will walk through different approaches and engage in the kind of classroom experiences that promote deeper learning.
With our division 3 colleagues, we will meet 3 times over the school year to dig deeper into the content of Visible Learning for Mathematics, and to share and collaborate with each other. Join us for some hands-on activities, professional conversations and ideas that you can use in your classroom.
These evening sessions are available for you to come and join us in person, or you may choose to join us online (we will have an online Zoom meeting room connected in with our in-person gathering). You can join us from the comfort of your own home/school – anywhere as long as you have internet.

This learning opportunity is being offered through curriculum implementation funding from Alberta Education.
Shelly Readis currently an Instructional Coach with Foothills School Division. She has spent most of her career teaching grades 6-9 math, science and physical education and has also worked as a Learning Coach. Shelly believes that the seven mathematical processes and a blend of procedural and conceptual understanding are vital for student understanding in math. Currently, Shelly is a member of Alberta's curriculum redesign team in the areas of science and math and she recently completed a Creating Cultures of Thinking on-line course. Key influences for Shelly are Project Zero, The Critical Thinking Consortium, and her colleagues at FSD. Wanda Dechantis a Designer of Professional Learning with the Calgary Regional Consortium. Her role includes supporting teachers, E.A.’s, school admin, learning coaches and parents in the area of K-12 Math. Wanda began teaching math and science in 2000, her teaching experience extends from grades 7 – 12. For the past 6 years Wanda’s work has included a focus on K-6 Mathematics. Three critical aspects of learning that Wanda embeds into her sessions include:
