TARGET AUIDENCE: HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND

Through Moving Forward with High School Redesign, schools have been invited to re-imagine the ways that learning unfolds in classrooms with the goals of increasing student engagement and achievement. Personalised learning, meaningful relationships with students, and rigorous and relevant learning opportunities are supported through the Foundational Principles as cornerstones of this shift in thinking.

Creating competency rich experiences for students is one way to take action in bringing the Foundational Principles to life in schools.  In every subject area, when we explore the relationship between Programs of Study, Foundational Principles, and Competencies, students develop strong skills and knowledge for learning, living, and their futures.

In this session, participants will:

  • Explore the relationship between the Programs of Study they teach, the Foundational Principles, and Alberta Education’s 8 Competencies
  • Evaluate their current inclusion of Competencies in learning designs, classrooms routines, and procedures
  • Create a personal plan of how they will use competency rich experiences in their programs to support the realisation of the Foundations Principles that are being focused on in their schools

This learning opportunity is being offered through curriculum implementation funding from Alberta Education.
