TARGET AUDIENCE: GRADES 4-8 TEACHERS AND MATH COACHES ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND

This webinar will explore addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions.  It is intended that this webinar will be a part 1 of 2 webinars, as there is more content to explore than can fit in one time slot.   The main visual tools will be a blank number line and comparative fraction magnets.  There may be other visuals included.  The idea is to make fraction operations as simple to visualize as whole number operations.

Fractions are a hot topic, whether in junior high classrooms, high school classrooms or university classrooms.  There is constant concern for the lack of understanding and flexibility when working with fractions (rational expressions).  This is a very important topic to explore at all grade levels and to help students visualize and understand that these operations are not another “new set of rules” to memorize in mathematics.   Join us with an open mind, graph paper, plain paper, pencil, and your mathematical curiosity.

This learning opportunity is being offered through curriculum implementation funding from Alberta Education
