TARGET AUDIENCE: PARENTS AND TEACHERS OF CHILDREN IN GRADES 3-7 ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND

The focus of these three sessions is on things you can do at home to help build your child’s (ren’s) confidence, ability, knowledge and skills for both learning the basic multiplication facts but also for how to relate and apply them to work with division, fractions and decimals. Yes, the goal is mental fluency and quick recall.  The sessions are set up over 3 nights so that you can take materials home, try them out, then come back and talk about what went wrong, what went right, what to do next. These are brief focused tasks and activities that focus on building the foundations for understanding number properties as you study and practice multiplication and division “facts”. (single, double and multi digit). Number properties and relationships form the foundation for success with algebra as students move toward junior high and high school.

Throughout this series you can expect to learn:

  • Or relearn some basic mathematics in ways that will surprise you with their simplicity and COMMON SENSE. Who said math is supposed to be HARD to learn?

  • That understanding how the math works gives you the power and confidence to attempt new levels of complexity. Understanding math makes you want to learn more.

  • That visual models for understanding mathematical relationships help all students learn, remember and apply what they have learned, even once the models are removed.

  • The importance of short, focused and positive, one on one interactions with your child(ren). There's only one thing that has never wavered since it was first studied back in the 1950s, and that is the fact that children who have parents who are involved in their education... those children do better at school.

The tasks are  set up so that you will work through a progression and, if you take the time to practice ten minutes a day with your child(ren) between each session, you will see a change in attitude and ability.
